PETALING JAYA: Damansara Utama Residents and Owners Association president Rajesh Patel said residents were losing patience.
He said they had been waiting for the right turn from the Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) interchange to Damansara Utama for too long.
He said they were sick and tired of having to take lengthy detours to get home, as a result of its closure.
"It has been four months. We want the right turn to be opened immediately after Raya. We want sound barriers to be put up on the flyover. We are also requesting that the hoarding be replaced and the trees replanted."
He said the loss of the trees and the removal of sound barriers had compounded noise and dust woes for houses in Jalan 21/44.
The traffic light at the turn, located near the Petronas petrol station in Jalan Tun Mohd Fuad, was removed to facilitate the building of a 700m underpass.
However, the underpass bypasses Jalan 21/23 which is the main entry into Damansara Utama from TTDI and comes out near Persiaran Bandar Utama.
Residents likened themselves to mice searching for cheese in a boxed-in maze of highways on their journeys home.
They said the removal of the traffic light had resulted in extra travelling time of between 45 minutes and one hour during peak periods as they were forced to travel two to three kilometres to get to the roundabout in Jalan 21/23.
They said there were a number of alternative routes but these detours meant that they were stuck in traffic for up to an hour.
Motorists heading to Uptown Damansara from Jalan Damansara can turn into the Puchong-bound stretch of the Lebuhraya Damansara-Puchong (LDP) and U-turn at the traffic light opposite the Damansara Utama police station.
They can also use the new underpass to get onto the Kepong-bound stretch of the LDP and U-turn at the crossroads between Lebuh Bandar Utama and Jalan Burhanuddin Helmi, TTDI.
They can then drive straight on and return to the interchange to make a U-turn under the flyover to get to Jalan 21/23. Or, they can turn into Persiaran Bandar Utama, Jalan Masjid and turn left into Kg Kayu Ara before returning to Jalan 21/34, which leads to Jalan 21/23. Unfortunately, they can't use this road on Thursdays when there is a pasar malam.
Those travelling from Eastin Hotel can use the Sprint highway, opposite Tropicana City Mall, and take a U-turn near the NKVE and turn into Jalan 21/1 at Uptown.
Many people working in Damansara Utama use the roundabout to exit the township. To get to Kepong or U-turn back to Puchong or TTDI, they use Jalan 21/23.
