Another Intruder Held

Our guards on 08.06.2012 at 4 am, noticed an individual walking within our guarded compound. The gentleman (see picture below) seems lost and also disillusioned.

One of our guards approached him and guided him to the guard house. A volunteer committee member of DUROA from our zone was alerted to the scene. The guard's manager was also alerted. He arrived, and took the man to a police station.

We have very brave guards. In the morning of 23rd May (Wed), the leader of our guard squad Mr. Parminder, apprehended an intruder in our area at 4 am.

The suspect came in a car of 4 people. They have attempted to enter our area from the main gain but was stopped. They then drove close to road SS21/42, parked their vehicle, and trespassed into our zone by foot.

The sound of consistent dog barks alerted Mr. Parminder to go and investigate. Doing so, he confronted the intruders and while they were attempting to flee, he managed to catch one of them (see picture below).

The police were alerted. They came and took custody of the apprehended suspect.

DAMANSARA Utama Zone C residents will have their gated and guarded scheme up and running in a month, finally joining other zones in the area.

The Zone C security team is still finalising the details.

Its chairman, Chan Chiau Khiang, said the area was prone to crime before the guards started patrolling last May. “There is still crime being committed but it is an average of one case per month and we hope with the gated and guarded scheme, Zone C will be a much safer place,” he said.

Zone C has 350 houses and 220 are subscribing to the scheme, with a monthly charge of RM50 per household.

There are four guards — two during the day and two at night. However, the committee feels three guards for each shift would be ideal and for that more members and funding are needed. There are guardhouses in Jalan SS21/48 and Jalan SS21/29 with boom gates.

The two guardhouses costing RM4,400 were donated by Al-Azhar Global Sdn Bhd under 1 Malaysia Teras Kegemilangan Rakyat. The two points will be closed between midnight and 6am as per the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) guidelines.

Damansara Utama Residents and Owners Association president Rajes Patel said they started off guards patrolling in Damansara Utama in 2003, and subsequently zones A, B1, B2 and D subscribed to it. “What is happening in Zone C is an extension of the scheme and the idea is to have better security. “The next phase would be to have CCTVs in the area and of course that will depend on the subscribers,” he said during the launch of the scheme yesterday.

Event Time: Wednesday Oct 5 2011 at around 11+am.

We had another robbery happened in our zone on Wednesday Oct 5 at around 11+am along road 27.  The lady of the house left to go to the market with the maid leaving no one in the house at 10.45am, returning at around 11.30am. In just a short 45mins, her house was broken into and robbed.

Attach is a still shot from our CCTV capturing the robber at guard post 1. They gave the exact address to the guards asking for directions to the house and saying they are going there to deliver a document. There were 2 Malays and 1 Chinese in an old dark blue Proton Putra WSW 5328.

What I found strange was that they have the exact address of the house that they want to rob and also they know that there is no one in. My guess is that another maid or construction worker, possibly one close to the neighbor’s, must have tipped off the robbers when they were seen leaving the house. They were even able to remotely open the gates of the house meaning they may already have the remote control’s code earlier.

The guard supervisor (Bihim Tiwari) was on his rounds when he passed by the house. He saw the gate open and the owner’s Honda CRV half way out of the driveway and there was that Proton car parked outside. At that point he was not aware a robbery was happening. He stopped to ask the driver sitting in the car who he was waiting for. The driver made a call and shortly 2 guys casually walked out of the house, one carrying a bag. They got in the car and left leaving the house door and gate open. Tiwari pressed the doorbell to inform the owner that the gate is still open but no one came out. So he walked up to the house and saw the mess in the house from outside.

Just then the owner came back to the house when Tiwari was still there. Sensing something was not right, the owner asked the supervisor to accompany her into the house. She found her house ransacked. Her safe box was also pushed out of the room. If not for Tiwari stopping to inspect the house as the gate was open with a car parked outside, the robbers would have had even more time to ransack the house. What is also weird is that they managed to move the Honda out of the house. Maybe they were trying to drive it away when it stalled because of the immobilizer. Valuable items were stolen. It all happened in a matter of few minutes. The police took almost an hour to arrive which was really bad. They just add to the stress of being robbed.

Once again I must emphasize the need not to take your home’s security for granted. You must always totally lock up your house securely whenever you leave. It only takes minutes to break into a house. What you need to do is to make it harder thus longer for them to break in. So the more locks you use the longer it will take the robbers and hopefully they will give up and leave. It can happen to anyone, including me. We must always look out for each other and be the eyes and ears for the neighborhood.

Suspected Bogus IWK Worker Harassing Maid in our township

Last month, there was an incident that probably a bogus IWK worker was coming around to disturb the maid of one our of members. With hindsight, a complain was lodged to IWK and the following replied was given below (in Blue).

Our guards were already informed on this, but we request that all member to help take note. Do alert our guards again if the similar suspicious person were to appear.

We convey our appreciation to the member that brought this to our attention. Everyone in this community have responsible part to play in helping to make our community safe.

Hi all,

I want to alert you of an IWK meter reader who came to my house at about 11.30 this morning (after I had left to work), rang the doorbell and tried to engage in conversation with my maid (usual nonsense like What's your name, I want to be your friend etc in both Malay and English).

Based on my maid's description - short, fat,  XXXX man with white hair, wearing a black and blue polo shirt and blue jeans, riding a blue motorcycle - I spoke to the guards who identified this person as a IWK meter reader. If this person is one of those who are regularly come to our neighborhood in the course for their so-called duties, I would consider this man a threat.

I intend to complain to IWK although I doubt it would make a difference. Anyway, do take note, especially those with maids and children at home.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your feedback. It is most unlikely that it is our employee.

Our operations crew would be dressed in our corporate uniform (blue & green T-shirt or just blue jacket) with embroidery of our IWK logo and also possess an IWK identify card.

Moreover, we do not knock on doors unless there is prior appointment with the house owner. Our crew will also come in a van or lorry with IWK logo too, depending on the nature of the sewerage problem.

We would suggest you request your security guard to arrest this person immediately, if he cannot produce proper identification.

+ Extra Guard Added During CNY Week

As most of us were away during the holiday week last month, there was an extra guard added to our existing security force.

It was for the temporary period of one week because during that period it was deemed as high risk. Most of us should know well of that, that crime risk goes up during the festive season.

The extra guard truly helped to beef up the our existing force, and of course that comes with cost too. Never mind the cost, but it was well worth the value to have a peace of mind for all.

We are glad to know that it all went well, and our place is safe during the holiday absence.

Security Guard Mobile Beat Base near the River

You may have witnessed a temporary set up near the joining roads between road SS21/42 and road SS21/42A. This is the Security Guard's Mobile Beat Base.


The aim of having this is to provide extra security coverage along the River Bank area.

This zone has been the concern of security due to frequent encroachment by outsiders. Most of them mainly do so for fishing like the guy below.

Ever since the base was up until now, the encroachments were less. Hope it will continue to maintain that way.

New Vehicle Pass/Sticker to be distributed on Sat, 20th Mar 2010

Finally after a long wait, our new car stickers are ready. It was initially planned to have them distributed earlier (see Expiry of Security Membership Tag and Vehicle Pass), together with our Gate Tags but was delayed, see New Vehicle Pass (Car Stickers) exchange delayed

The date decided for distributing them will be on 20th March 2010 (Saturday). Please bring old car stickers and we will exchange them for you with the new ones. Your security subscription receipts too are ready as well, and will he handed out together.

Coinciding with this, 20th March is also our 7th Recycling For Sinking Fund Event (click here to view Event Calendar). Please come with some old newspapers to help chip in.

New Vehicle Pass (Car Stickers) exchange delayed, and until further notice

Following our announcement on 12th Jan '10 about the "Expiry of Security Membership Tag and Vehicle Pass", we are proud to announce that the distribution of the new Gate tags has already been accomplished. It is now encouraged that all members display their new gate tags soon (see article, Display of Gate Tags essential in helping with security).

But nevertheless and with regret, the exchange for the new Vehicle Passes (i.e. 2nd term) could not be realized on time. This was due to the delay in printing by our subcontractor.

The printing work took longer time than expected due to the our requirement to have its design improved. Yes, we have a better looking Vehicle Pass now. You would also notice the same improvements with our new Gate Tags too.

As for now your current Vehicle Pass (see insert) is still valid for the time being until the new ones are ready.

Once available, the volunteers will distribute them to you soon.

Display of Gate Tags essential in helping with security

If you have already received your new gate tags, but not displayed it yet, then please do so immediately.



All members should already have received their gate tags by now and most have already displayed them on their front gates.


If you have not received yours, please contact the volunteer committee member nearest to you immediately.

There are 177 houses in this area, and we have more than > 100 members. It will be difficult for the guards to remember who is who without the help of these tags. So please have it displayed as soon as possible. It will help the guards and also us, in effectively maintaining the security here. Remember, the festive season is coming soon.

Expiry of Security Membership Tag and Vehicle Pass

The membership gate tags and vehicle passes (i.e. stickers on your car) for our 1st term security subscription will expire on 24th Jan 2010.

New ones valid for the 2nd term will be distributed to you this Saturday, 16th Jan 2010 at the "padang" from 9 to 12 pm.

The session will coincide with our monthly Recycling for Sinking Fund progam. Please help to contribute by bringing along some of your old newspapers as well.

New (2nd term) vehicle passes

The new vehicle passes will be handed out in exchange for the old ones. This swap will be for a 1 to 1 exchange example, if you bring 4 vehicle passes, we will return you 4 new ones for the 2nd term.

So, please remember to bring your old vehicle passes.

Security, reason for the change

To minimize the risk of our identification (your car passes) being copied or stolen by potential intruders, we will have to regularly make changes to its design.

Our guards has been informed on this change.

For Members with subscription pending unpaid, please contact your street representatives or volunteer committee to hand in your subscription as soon as possible before the expiry date. This is to avoid any inconveniences at the gate with the guards.

For New Members, if you have already signed up for this, please come this Saturday to collect your passes and tag. Also, it will be a good chance for you to get to know your neighbours.

If you have not done so, then we will look forward to your participation and support.

New Guard House and Fences closing the side lanes

You may have noticed lately that there were fences installed on all the 3 side lanes leading into our area. These fences will act as a barrier to prevent intruders encroaching in by foot. The proposal with its intended benefit was highlighted in our posting dated 31.08.09.

There was a 97% vote,obtained from our own online polls dated 17.09.2009 in favor of having this being set up. So on the 3rd Oct gathering this initiative was officially commenced.

Also, in conjunction with this fencing, a 2nd guard house was build at the gate along road SS21/42.

Though this are a few small actions being taken recently, but progressively moving forward in such a way, it is a huge leap toward making our community one of the best community to live in.

Proposal to have permanent closure to small side lanes

Some of the communities in nearby townships have already taken the action to permanently close some of their access points. You may have noticed this in BU, DJ, and also some other similar areas.



To us, this could also be an advantage as it would;

- Reduce Cost: by having one (1) guard less during day shift.

- Improve guard focus: So that they wont be bogged down by overseeing only the petty suspects that would come in by foot, bicycles, or motorcycles; but also importantly the professional ones that comes in with luxury cars, vans, trucks and etc.

- Eliminate suspects encroaching on foot

30th MAY 2009 (Sat) - Basket Ball Court: The launching of our security guard program went extremely well. We can only express THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to all of you. Most and foremost our appreciation goes to,

We hope all participants of the gathering that afternoon had a good time, and also have enjoyed the food prepared by the caterers. The Buffet High Tea was sponsored by the Volunteer Committee members in appreciation of the residents' support for the program.
